Hi, I'm Miss V!
I grew up thinking I wasn't any good at art because my drawings never looked realistic. I thought that being artistic meant you had to be a skilled drawer, and since my drawings on paper didn't look the same as they did in my head, I gave up on art pretty early on. Does that sound like any of you?
Once I started to learn more about art, I realised just how incorrect that thought pattern was. Look at some of the most celebrated artists: Pollock, Picasso, Kandinsky and Mondrian, to name a few. Are any of their masterpieces characterised by their photo-realistic drawing?
My mission is to teach kids art in a way that empowers them and their inherent creativity. I want to challenge the notion that there is only one way of being great at art by valuing the process over the product and exposing kids to a variety of art styles and mediums. I believe that every child can find a medium in which they shine, whether that is pottery, printmaking, watercolours, sketching, collage or something new entirely!
After almost eight years as a primary classroom teacher, I decided to step out and follow my passion. By day, I work as a specialist art teacher at a primary school. In the afternoons and school holidays, I can be found teaching art to small groups of passionate, art-loving kids. I couldn't be happier.
Come and join me and unleash your inner artist!
